Peter Stockton
Patient and supporter of Ashgate Hospicecare
Peter Stockton was a regular attendee
of the ‘Living Well’ program at Ashgate Hospicecare’s Day Hospice, a program designed for patients with a life-limiting illness to spend quality time together and do fun activities.
Peter first became known to the Fundraising
Peter used to work for the Samuel Grant Group and said they were excellent employers. He still had a good relationship with the Grant family, so he approached them to see if they could donate some more furniture to match what had just been donated so that all patients could enjoy spending time outside.
Peter shed a tear when he saw the plaque for one of the benches that read:
“KINDLY DONATED BY MARMAX
Team after he told the staff that he wanted to get some new outdoor furniture donated to the Hospice for the Day Hospice patients to use. Charlotte Gratton, Partnerships Executive, talks about how this lead to Peter becoming an official Fundraising Ambassador for the Hospice.
“Peter went to sit on a new bench outside and noticed it was made by Marmax, a furniture company who are part of the Samuel Grant Group. The funds to pay
for the new furniture were kindly raised by the Tesco Community Champions as the old furniture was in desperate need of replacing.
The Samuel Grant Group went above and beyond what Peter had asked for and donated a number of low maintenance benches and tables to replace the old ones, saving the Hospice over £2,000! The Marmax furniture is made out of recycled materials, meaning they are not only eco-friendly, they are also hardwearing and come with a 30 year guarantee, which will save the Hospice money into the future.”

This talent for fundraising and passion for helping the Hospice didn’t stop at Peter. Shortly after the Hospice received the new furniture, Peter’s daughter, Claire, approached a local garden centre to source some parasols to go with the furniture. These have been essential for the patients to enjoy being outdoors throughout this year’s hot summer.
But Peter didn’t stop his fundraising efforts at that! He had so many ideas for approaching more companies to ask if they could donate items to the Hospice that we decided to make him an official Fundraising Ambassador.
