                 TRENDS #2:
BLACK MAGIC
Aura pendant light shade in black/copper, £29 from Made, www.made.com
In the fashion world, black has always been synonymous with sophistication. But it’s only recently that black has been used more widely in decorating having long been considered too gothic or edgy for everyday use.
This year black, especially with a flat matte finish, has cropped up in taps and shower fittings and is now being seen in lighting, flooring and tableware.
Black obviously works brilliantly paired with bright white in large open spaces but don’t be afraid to use black in small rooms where there is little natural light. For rooms used mainly in the evenings or for relaxing it can be better
to embrace the dark side rather than trying to add fake light.
The key to ensuring your
room doesn’t resemble the Addams Family mansion
is to add contrast using metallic or reflective
finishes and texture using
richly coloured velvet
or glossy veneered
timber. You can pair
black with white or grey
for a New York loft style contemporary scheme
or go for boudoir luxe by adding bold florals in magenta and emerald green.
