We also looked at social media and acknowledged that
it is a powerful tool for connecting and interacting with
people all over the world. It allows us to interact online
more efficiently, form connections, and acquire and
disseminate information more quickly than ever before.

Many people are using social media to raise awareness
about a cause that is important to them within a larger
audience than they would otherwise have access to.
Businesses can also use social media to promote their
products and services. It is proving to be a great place
for businesses to increase brand awareness, get instant
feedback, and grow their market through advertisement
and engagement. This is a result of the hyper-targeting
opportunities provided by these platforms and algorithms
to help them connect with those ideal customers.

However, given social media’s apparent addictive nature
and our ability to become lost while browsing endless
content, we must exercise caution and limit the amount
of time we spend on it. We should also change the
notification settings and privacy controls to protect our
personal information and to limit our consumption.

Because of social media, our society appears to be
rating and judging one another based on the image
we project online. Strangers, potential employers,
government officials, and law enforcement, as well as
friends, are starting to use it to assess others. This type
of peer evaluation could lead to the development of a
“new social scoring” system, similar to the one used by
the shared ride and lodging industries, Uber, and Air BnB.
The Netflix Twilight Zone “Nosedive” episode and the
film “In Time” are two examples of how this could work
in the future. There is technology that already exists that
