SESSION 13
The Shulamite is obviously in close proximity to her King—otherwise,
how would she have been able to give such a detailed description of
His eyes? Doves are single-focused. He is gazing at her, and she is
gazing back, with no distractions from what is potentially going on
around them. As they are locked in this posture, she receives the water
streams of spiritual revelation flowing out of His being.
It states that his eyes have been washed with milk, which is a symbol
of nourishment. We are revived and amply supplied with the heavenly
mysteries of God if we will make Him our focus. These eyes of His are
jewels because what emanates from them is the purest form of love—
and the most precious treasure available to man is made accessible,
namely, Jesus Himself!
The more we behold Jesus, the more like Him we will become. There
is a saying: “You can’t stay under the waterfall and remain dry.” We
need to sit under the waterfall of God’s living water and receive a
soaking of life from the Holy Spirit.
In verse 13, the description then moves from His eyes to His cheeks
and lips we are now getting a clearer picture of her Bridegroom’s face,
and it emits the beauty and preciousness of healing beds of spices.
Notice that the plural form is used, and this is because Jesus is the
answer to every longing of the human heart. His fragrances are varied
and tailor-made to suit each of us individually at our point of need.
