Termite Swarmer: As temperatures get warm in spring, and usually after clam winds and a rain, termites are commonly seen swarming in high numbers. These flying termite swarmers are often times confused with the flying ants. When you see termite swarmers, this means that an already mature colony is branching out to start a new one or as many as they can. Average size termite colonies can range from 60,000 to up to a million termites. Below is an identification tool you can use to see if you have termite swarmers or flying ants. If, you don’t know, call our office. We will be glad to help. 731-497-6001
Turf Disease Alert: Lawns continue to be susceptible to lawn diseases. Brown patch is a common turf disease this time of the year. Brown patch generally has an area of turf yellowing/browning and that area continues to spread. Centipede Brown Patch-look for brown to reddish colored areas. St. Augustine Brown Patch-Brownish patch and often a yellow halo around the outer edges and the affected area. Another turf disease is Leaf Spot. Symptoms appear as small dark purple to black spots which enlarge with centers fading to tan, often with a yellow halo. Iron Chlorosis is when the leaf veins stay green and the rest of the leaf tissue is yellowing. This another turf disease that is common when there is an iron deficiency. Improve drainage, water early in the morning if needed, and top dress you lawn to prevent your lawn from holding water.
