• Post-Emergent: Spot spray active weeds with a non-selective herbicide.
• Insect and Disease Application: Apply an insecticide to control insects and a fungicide
to control and prevent ornamental diseases.
• Pruning: Your trees and shrubs should be enjoying a break from the recent heat and
humidity. Assuming the plants are not under heat stress, now would be a great time to prune or shape your shrubs. Do not cut your landscape way back this time of the year. Heavy Fall trimming usually keeps the plant naked and awkward until warmer temperatures arrive several months later (probably next Spring).
• Fertilize: Fertilize your landscape in the month of October.
NOVEMBER
Warm Season Turf: Bermuda and Zoysia
• Mowing: Warm season grasses, such as Bermuda and Zoysia, should almost have stopped growing. This growing season has basically come to an end and keeping excess leaves and other debris from building up on the lawn is important.
• Clean Up: Excess clippings or leaves that cover the lawn are likely to smother it out. Removing occasionally is necessary. Raking or mulching the leaves with a mower will help the plant get more sunlight and stay healthier. When mowing, cut no more than 1/3 of the grass blade. Do not cut you lawn lower than 3 1/2”. The extra height will help protect the plant from winter damage.
• Watering: Water as needed 1"-2" per week.
• Fertilizer: Use only potassium fertilizer if needed. Potassium fertilizer can be applied as
needed to help strengthen the cell wall of the roots. Check your soil analysis prior to any application. Once you have enough potassium available to the plant, it won’t always have to be reapplied because it doesn’t leach out of the soil very fast compared to nitrogen.
• Post-Emergent: Apply spot applications of a selective herbicide for active weeds.
