The Art of Mowing
You may want to read this if you mow your lawn or other people’s lawn and want to make sure you are mowing it right. Like most people, they just turn the key on, drop the blades, and just have at it. If it cranks and it mows, they are good.... or at least they think they are. There is a little more to it and these mis- takes prevent the lawn from reaching its full potential.
Mowing requires the right strategy and skillset to allow your lawn to thrive. Yes, there is an art to mowing and I want to share with you 5 common mistakes.
1. Mowing too low: Never mow more than 1/3 of the grass blade on each
mowing. When you cut too deep into the plant, you are essentially ripping the planet of nutrients and thus, putting your lawn under immediate stress. That in combination with extreme weather conditions, can leave a turf stunted, stressed, and discolored. The greenest parts of the grass are the leaf blades, particularly the tips. By only removing 1/3 of the blade, this allows your lawn to maintain a nice green color.
