4. Change mowing directions: The simple direction we mow plays a huge role in our lawn’s overall appearance and health. All lawns and properties are not created equal. Of course, most people mow the easiest way to simply save time. Alternating the direction reduces noticeable tracks and also reduces soil compaction. Do not underestimate the effects of com- pacted soil. Compaction restricts air, water, and nutrients from your turf grass, which your lawn needs to thrive. Mowers are heavy machines that when traveled across the lawn in the same direction time and time again, it quickly compacts the soil. Alternate from side to side, front to back, and even mowing at an angle. By swapping directions, you will reduce com- paction leaving your lawn healthier.
5. Be nimble, don’t overthink: Be able to make adjustments on the fly depending on seasonal and weather changes. Adjust your mowing height depending on the time of year. Grass is coming out of dormancy can af- ford to be mowed a little lower. (April/May-2”-2.5”) Continue to raise your mowing height throughout the season, maybe up to a height of 4 inches, never mowing more than 1/3 of the grass blade on each cutting. Don’t overthink the lawn. It’s hard to explain but mother nature has a funny way of taking care of things. As simple as it sounds, sometimes it’s best to just leave the lawn alone. If it doesn’t need to be mowed, then don’t mow it. If it doesn’t need to be watered, then don’t water it. Crazy, right? LOL And remember, we only want what’s best for our lawns and some- times it’s better to do nothing than something.
Your lawn is living soil. It needs food, water, and care so it can thrive. And if you would like more information from us or if there is any way we can help you, please go to our website 4evergreen.com and fill out the form and we will be happy to reach back out.
