JUNE
Warm Season Turf: Bermuda and Zoysia
• Mowing: It is now the first official month of Summer, and our warmer season grasses (Bermuda and Zoysia) are loving it. Occasionally, these hot days can stress our Bermuda and Zoysia grasses unless there is enough moisture available to the plant. Higher mowing height, such as 4”, will help the lawn hold good color. Never cut more than 1/3 of your grass blade on each cutting.
• Watering: In ideal conditions, your lawn needs 2” of precipitation during the growing season per week. It is best to have less frequent, heavy soakings. This can come from rainfall or other means of irrigation. Do NOT overwater. This can be more detrimental than of lack of precipitation.
• Aerate: June is also a great month to aerate the lawn. With growing activity at its peak, relieving the compaction and allowing nutrients to get to the root system will really help thicken the lawn.
• Fertilizer: Fertilize with high nitrogen to provide good color and turf density. Apply (up to 1 lb.) .5lbs-.75lbs of N per 1,000 sq. ft. Do not apply fertilizer any sooner than 4 weeks apart (after watered in) and no more than 3 feedings per year during the growing season.
• Post-Emergent: Not only are Bermuda and Zoysia lawns growing, but so are the weeds. A good application of selective herbicides should be applied for control.
• Insect Control: Apply an insecticide to control a wide variety of insects, included but not limited to, fleas, ticks, chiggers, ants, spiders, and many more. Protect your family and your pets!
• Mosquito Control: Another application of mosquito control is applied with a fast knock down and residual to control a wide variety of insects, included but not limited to, mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, chiggers, ants, spiders and many more. Protect your family and your pets!
Cool Season Turf: Fescue and Ryegrass
• Mowing: Cool season grasses, such as Fescue and Ryegrass, need very little maintenance this time of year. Mow at least 4” high (every 10-14 days).
• Fertilizer: No Nitrogen needs to be applied to the lawn.
• Post-Emergent: Apply spot applications as needed for active weeds.
• Insect Control: Apply an insecticide to control a wide variety of insects included but not
limited to fleas, ticks, chiggers, ants, spiders, and many more. Protect your family and your pets.
