Tree and Shrub Care
• In ideal conditions, your landscape needs 1”-2” of precipitation during the growing season per week. This can come from rainfall or other means of irrigation.
• Post-Emergent: Hand-pull or apply a non-selective herbicide as a spot application only. Avoid drift to plants to prevent plant injury.
• Insect and Disease Application: Apply an insecticide to control insects and a fungicide to control and prevent ornamental diseases.
JULY
Warm Season Turf: Bermuda and Zoysia
• Mowing: Summertime temperatures are here and our warm season grasses, such as Bermuda and Zoysia, are thriving. Regular mowing at a height of 4+” will help the lawn keep good color. Lower mowing heights would have to be offset with more frequent irrigation to keep it green and healthy. Never cut more than 1/3 of the grass blade on each cutting.
• Watering: : In ideal conditions, your lawn needs 2” of precipitation during the growing season per week. It is best to have less frequent, heavy soakings. This can come from rainfall or other means of irrigation. Do NOT overwater. This can be more detrimental than of lack of precipitation.
• Grub Control and Surface Feeding Insects: Moles and other surface feeding insects can be a pain in the neck. The best proven way to rid your lawn of moles is to remove their food source. The theory is, if there is no food, the moles will forage elsewhere in search for a meal. Apply and water in a grub/surface insecticide to control grub worms and some earthworm control as well. Patience is required.
• Fertilizer: Fertilize with high nitrogen to provide good color and turf density. Apply (up to 1 lb.) .5lbs-.75lbs of N per 1,000 sq. ft. Do not apply fertilizer any sooner than 4 weeks apart (after watered in) and no more than 3 feedings per year during the growing season.
• Post-Emergent: Not only are Bermuda and Zoysia lawns growing, but so are the weeds. A good application of selective herbicides should be applied for control.
• Mosquito Control: Another application of mosquito control is applied with a fast knock down and residual to control a wide variety of insects, included but not limited to, mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, chiggers, ants, spiders and many more. Protect your family and your pets!
