I have been to West China, Beijing Children’s
Hospital, Shanghai Fudan affiliated Pediatric
hospital, First affiliated hospital of Zhengzhou
University as well as other provincial and municipal
ones. In terms of hardware, there is no major
difference between US and Chinese hospitals. The
difference exists in residential calibers of second or
third tier resident programs between US and China.
The other major difference between US and
China is the hierarchy system existed in China and
morning report; in US the buck stops with attending
physician; there is incentive for early development. I came in during weekend to observe a
small bowel transplant and several months I was the one responsible for combined liver/ small
bowel transplant, several months ahead Seattle Children’s where I was trained. I have been to
many US hospitals and never encountered any morning report, it is universal in China.
8. 回首往事,您所做的最得意的事,最想让人记住的是什么?给年轻人的寄语是什么?
Because I was the very first class of Nanjing University Medical College, I was the first one
ever of that medical school to have US medical license, especially the California one with title
of my medical school printing on that license paper. I put my medical school on the map.
Wish I would be remembered as the gentle, kind one inspiring and keeping their passion for
pediatric anesthesia; Words for the youngsters: I like Steve Jobs ‘commencement speech to
Stanford with my twist: “Be curious, be foolish, be humble and hungry “
