For example, while he was attending Washington State University, he had to find a job. Going through the newspaper help wanted section in 1980, he was energetically drawn to learning computers.
At that point, he had never seen a personal computer, but seeing all the “help wanted” ads for computer programmers drove him to apply for a job at the Soil Sciences Department. He offered to work for free until he learned enough to be productive.
Arjun talks about an example of his intuitive process as starting with a need. In this case a financial need, and then paying attention to what attracts you - where the energy drives you. In this sound clip, he sites an an example that had “huge repercussions on my life.”
Two types of intuition
How did he know that computer technology would lead the way for decades? He didn’t, but his intuition gave him the “energetic pull” that set the direction for his life.
The second bucket involves the “10,000-hour” principle where you spend a great deal of time learning a particular skill or an area of expertise, and then use “learned intuition” as a way of synthesizing
