After the celebration, we stayed in touch over the ensuing years and as I was just starting this book had an occasion to be in Colorado and had lunch with her. I found her extraordinarily warm and very present. A sense of presence you rarely experience in anyone, much less one who had gone through so much pain.
I also learned from her a very valuable process that I call “connect first.” Most people with a task
involving another person will move right into the task. Sandra’s process is to connect and then move into working together. She describes it here.
Connect First
Throughout this section of the book, many people have talked about balancing intellect with intuition and the power that balance provides. Here Sandra talks about creating possibilities, which is one of Carl Jung’s ways of describing the role of the intuition.
Here, Sandra talks about conversations with her second husband who is a senior executive with a major international consulting firm. Critical thinking is the primary methodology of a fortune 500 consultant, which to a great extent disallows the use of the intuition.
