Page 320 - Your Leader Within Introduction
P. 320
Meeting your goal or eating a meal lasts only until the next desire. The next goal. The next meal. All very superficial and not very fulfilling.
I’m not saying that goals are not important or don’t set them. Often having goals, like having a good meal is a way to get where you want to go in life, but understand that it is only temporary. Achievement, like big houses, will not bring joy.
I’m saying that a better way to live is to observe your life unfolding and experience the joy of that unfoldment. That’s hard for me to say as I’ve relied on achievement most of my life for my sense of self worth.
If only...
To put it another way, I remember my wife Karen’s “if onlies...”
She was raised, by her mother, with a lot of “if onlies...” If only you stood up straight, you would be beautiful. If only your hair were done properly, you would be more attractive. If only you had the right smile, you would be charming.
Were these coming form her Leader Within or from someone outside of her? From what Terri-Lynn called “The Inherited Opinion Disorder.”
