Connections & Conversations:

Calming Ourselves and Others
Sunday, December 16, 10:15 a.m., CKA Library Life can get pretty hectic at this time of year. Join us as we explore some wellness techniques which can help us maintain calm in the midst of stress or con- flict. This Sunday Connections session will be co-led by Victoria C, Mediator and Professor of Communi- cation and Conflict Resolution, and by congregation member, mediator, and former Employee Relations/ HR Administrator, Lee G. They will share specific skills to help us be more effective in the face of life’s challenges. You’ll come away knowing what to say (and what NOT to say), as well as how our body language can affect reactions. You’ll learn how to calm yourself and others, and will take time to prac- tice some of these techniques.
One Book One Read is Underway
We chose a book for our One Book One Read event, where the whole congregation reads the same book and then we discuss it over a meal. This year’s book is The Empire of the Senses, by Alexis Landau. It starts off in Germany during World War I, moving between the main character, Lev, a cultured German Jew, and his gentile wife Josephine’s points of view. As the book continues, we hear from their children as they try to figure out who they are after the war. Through this, we learn about events that eventually led to WWII. This book is sure to provide interesting topics to discuss in April. The CKA library has a few copies so we hope you’ll start reading with us.

Bring your best “Chanukah Hit” to
Ladies Night In. By “hit” we mean a dish
that is always a “hit” with your family
and friends (purchased or homemade). We will enjoy a variety of food, schmoozing, and we’ll light the Chanukiah.
Please RSVP so we know how many to plan for (http://evite.me/jvfs8tJ5z5).
Todah Rabbah
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our WRJ Pacific District Convention mitzvah project. The knit and crocheted hats were incredibly diverse and beautiful. WRJ-PD collected a total of 330 hats, which were enthusiastically received by Rachel’s Women’s Center and Susan G. Komen in San Diego.
