November/December 2018 Telecom Reseller 7 Plantronics Opens the Door for ITSP Partners
with New VVX x50 Series Obi Edition Phones
New Desktop Phones Are Specifically Designed for Service Providers to Easily Deploy, Manage, and Maintain Deployments for Small and Mid-Sized Businesses
SANTA CRUZ, CA - Plantronics (NYSE: PLT) has announced the availability of the new Polycom VVX x50 Series Obi Edition phones developed to bring legendary Polycom audio and simple design in a business IP desk phone to small to medium- sized businesses. The VVX x50 Obi Edition phones are designed so service provider partners have flexibility and customization capabilities to manage Polycom-quality desk phones for small businesses at an affordable price.
A key differentiator for service providers is that the VVX x50 Series Obi Edition phones are managed through the Polycom cloud service, Polycom Device Management
Services for Service Providers (PDMS-SP),
a web-based configuration tool. This cloud service simplifies the management and provides actionable analytics and streamlines troubleshooting of Polycom desk phones. As a multi-tenant platform, PDMS-SP and
VVX x50 Series Obi Edition phones support multiple installations and are scalable to up to a million UCS devices, all from within the cloud-based portal.
“The VVX x50 Series Obi Series is a much- needed expansion of the Polycom desk phone portfolio to support the needs of services providers targeting the small and mid-sized business market,” said Shawn Puddester,
vice president, Global Service Providers, at Polycom. “With the new VVX x50 Series Obi Edition, service provider partners
can simplify the end-to-end experience of maintaining and measuring Polycom devices
in the cloud.”
In addition to meeting the needs of service
providers, the VVX x50 Series Obi Edition also bring next generation desktop phones
to the ever-changing communication needs of small to medium-sized businesses. Simple buttons and an intuitive interface make them reliable and easy to use, control and change so they integrate into existing workflows without disrupting business.
“Broadvoice looks forward to these new VVX phones with the Obi Edition software because it is a true game-changer for service providers like us,” said Jim Murphy, CEO of Broadvoice. “Polycom’s embrace of Obi will improve our time and ability to resolve issues for customers while increasing our flexibility in customized deployments. This is critical for a service provider like Broadvoice.”

The solution works by combining Verizon’s media forking capabilities, which enable multiple streams (or branches) of audio and video associated with a single call to be created mid-call, and then sent to different destinations, with Pindrop Security Inc.’s multi-factor anti-fraud and authentication solutions.
Verizon VoIP Inbound Anti-Fraud and Authentication is a cloud-based solution that passively captures and analyzes inbound calls to toll-free numbers within the Verizon network. It enables callers to be identified and verified by voice, removing the need for passwords.
deliver crystal clear wideband audio performance along with Polycom® Acoustic Fence TM technology to deliver noise and echo- free conversations, even in busy open office environments. Button functionality as well as the sleek look and feel of the phone’s interface can be customized down to the pixel to meet exact customer specifications. Customers, especially emerging businesses seeking to establish their presence in the marketplace, can easily build custom skins to incorporate product branding and colors.
The VVX x50 Series Obi Edition includes four models, VVX 150, VVX 250, VVX
350 and VVX 450, which will be available November 15 in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand and will expand to additional markets in the coming months. For more information on pricing and availability visit Plantronics.com. n
Because the solution is integrated into the Verizon network, it removes the need for enterprises to purchase and deploy on-premise solutions, and enables them to deploy security and anti-fraud capabilities quickly and cost effectively.
“This is really about making it easy for our customers to offer enhanced and secure self-service options to their own customers,” said Alla Reznik, Verizon’s director of Customer Experience (CX).

  Timed Alert Tones and Relay
Control with Viking’s Model
   CTG-1A
Viking’s CTG-1A produces scheduled alert tones over an existing paging system, and can also operate relays at specific times.
“Time is an invaluable commodity and keeping to a schedule increases productivity. The CTG-1A is a productivity tool and you will see results.” – Bill H. President, Viking Electronics
The CTG-1A is a clock-based
scheduling unit that can produce
single, double or triple bong/
buzzer alert tones, or the unit can latch
and unlatch two form C relay contacts
at pre-programmed event times. Two switchable schedules each store up to 128 pre-programmed events. Three trigger inputs have pre-loaded sounds for on-demand playback of an Evacuation Whoop, an Emergency Siren, or a doorbell chime. A
600 Ohm audio output can send tones to a paging amplifier for playback over a public address system.
An easy to use programming interface on the chassis of the CTG-1A allows users to quickly program events, the day of the week and time of day. The CTG-1A time syncs with AC power for accuracy and a Daylight Savings Time switch adds an hour to the current time when turned on. Event times and tone selection are set from the same on-chassis interface. Dip switches determine if the CTG-1A will produce bong or buzzer
tones, operate in “send tones” mode or “timed relay’ mode, and which schedule of events is active.
