But why? Why can’t today’s freelancer get
by with utilizing his current phone service? What advantages exist to make a VoIP solution necessary to phase in as an everyday tool? ere are many answers to these questions. However, there are four that stand their ground in this discussion:
Cost reduction - Most VoIP services provide call plans that include very low monthly rates. Combined with low usage rates, a freelancer will see a signi cant di erence in price compared to a typical phone bill.
Work/life balance - Rather than use your own phone number for business calls, why not use a separate PBX number that still rings through to your smartphone? VoIP o ers many BYOD (bring your own device) features. You can change the ring tone so you know the call is business or personal, lter work calls, and you can also “turn o ” your business phone during weekends or evenings.
Professionalism – Do you nd yourself thinking more highly of a phone beginning with “1-800”? at’s because it looks professional. Imagine how a customer might view your business if it had a Toll- Free number. Especially if it were a catchy vanity number such as 1-800-LUV-VOIP. A Toll-Free number can make your one-man operation look much larger than it actually is.
Collaboration – Working at home does in fact have its drawbacks. Teamwork becomes nonexistent, and in most cases, that’s not ideal.

Want to solve that problem? With a VoIP service, you’ll be able to use tools like conferencing.
WHERE ARE THE FREELANCER VOIP PACKAGES?
At this point, many cable companies haven’t spun up their own Gig Economy specials to meet the needs of this labor force. ey could provide cloud-based VoIP for a freelancer target market and sell tiered services. Freelancers serving clients in compliance-based industries like health and nancial services could give their customers another level of communications security. But they’re not. at’s where smaller VoIP reseller companies are clearing the path with this o ering. Features like an end user portal, where small businesses can manage
their numbers, fraud detection, and hosted billing, are the product o erings we’ll see with these resellers. ey allow a freelancer to easily manage, pay for, and protect their numbers.
THE FUTURE FREELANCERS AND VOIP
is VoIP market is growing right along
with the overall increase of the Gig Economy. Freelancers will latch on to the advantages of using their own devices for business calls. What a VoIP service brings that others will not, is connectivity. Collaboration is now easier than ever. at will remain VoIP’s key advantage. ●
