Social Action ACTION
Pots for Purim
For the Purim Shpiel, bring a pot, pan, bowl or sheetpan, plus a utensil to
make some noise on this, and you’ve got yourself a ‘Kol Ami grogger.’
After the shpiel, leave the items as a donation to the Community Warehouse in our annual Pots for Purim drive. If you don’t BYO, we’ll have items available for a suggested $15 donation. (A donor makes it possible that ALL ‘pots’ funds collected are gifted to Community Warehouse.) Community Warehouse is the single source of furnishings for 1st time home-dwellers for more than 200 social service agencies in the Metro area. CW’s motto is “Used Goods to Good Use” – if you have any additional housewares that you would like to donate to
Community Warehouse at the same time as we deliver our ‘pots,’ please bring them to CKA.
Tikkun Platoon
“It is not what one says but rather what one does that makes all the difference in the world.” - Pirkei Avot 1:17
Congregational life and all of Jewish tradition should ensure that we need not face any situation or problem alone. At CKA we are a family of families, and we believe it is important to respond to the needs of our neighbors in times of change, crisis, or hardship. To respond to these needs we have the Tikkun Platoon, our congregational caring committee. We arrange meals, visit members who are ill, arrange transportation to medical appointments or to worship services, help with childcare, make phone calls, and send cards offering support and condolences. If you want to be a part of this community and help serve, or if you are in need of our support or know someone who could use a helping hand, please contact Enid B or Deawn H.
CKA Hosts Winter Hospitality
Overflow on March 18-25
Kol Ami and Friends is WHO-hosting at St Paul Lutheran Church the week of March 18 – 25. This week is almost the end of the 5 month season of overnight shelter through the coldest months of the year. CKA volunteers did a terrific job of this for 5 nights over Christmas. Here’s another opportunity to take a turn at this easy mitzvah: 2.5, 4 or 7 hours (that can be split). Or sign up to supply 2 gallons of milk or juice or a can of coffee, or help provide part of an evening meal. We’ll get in touch with you a week before with final details. Sign-up at http:// signup.com/go/DGRC5c.
