One Book, One Read
This year’s event is on Sunday, April 22
For the last five years, CKA has read a book together and then joined in for a nice meal and a discussion. At the Books and Bagels event, about thirty of us looked over the choices and had a good chat about the options. We decided that we will all read Waking Lions by Eyelet Gundar- Goshen. Barb G, CKA's librarian, has ordered some books so you can check one out. Copies of the
other three books we considered are available in the library if you'd like to read those as well! So put April 22nd at 5 pm on your calendar. We'll have a nice meal and an interesting discussion about this suspenseful and morally-challenging book.
Mitzvah Day

Casseroles for Winter Hospitality Overflow
Thanks for being so great! We had 6 ladies who came Sunday to help make casseroles for the homeless. We made 9 casseroles and a bunch of cookies as well. We will freeze these and then bring them when CKA and friends take shifts at St. Paul’s shelter March 18-25.
Ladies Bake 40 Dozen Hamentaschen!
Boy, do we have hamentashen! During Mitzvah Day, several ladies rolled out the dough, put in the filling and pinched up the sides to make 40 dozen hamentashen that will be sold as well as donated for our Purim party. Do you want some of these treats for yourself, family or friends? Just use the order form on page 8 or use this link, https://tinyurl.com/CKAcookies2018, to order online. You can even have some sent to your friends and family.
Thank you to all our dedicated cooks and bakers for participating in another successful Mitzvah Day.
Mitzvah Day is done, but you can help your community year-round. Sign up for a stint during CKA’s week of hosting Winter Hospitality Overflow with this link: http://signup.com/go/DGRC5c.
Ever ask the “Whys of Shabbat”?
KAWRJ will lead services on February 9th
Do you ever wonder why we do certain rituals at a Shabbat service? When are we supposed to bow? Why do we face the door when we sing L’cha Dodi? KAWRJ will lead the Friday night service on February 9th and explain the answers to these question and more. Perhaps understanding when and why we do certain motions will help some of us feel more comfortable participating in Shabbat services.
Invite your friends and family so we can share the knowledge while we worship together. Services begin at 7:30pm.
Help Wanted for Feb. 9th Oneg
We thought this would be a nice time for KAWRJ members to host the kiddish as well. If we can count on you to bring something (fruit, cheese, sweets, nuts) let us know at kawrj18@gmail.com.
