It is often perceived that Africa, is 'backward',
because we are one of the poorest continents in
the world.

Africa is not a country, it is a continent, made
up of 55 recognised states, and as such each
country has their own Head of State.

We are the only continent, to have had the
most number of women Heads of State or
elected Presidents, in the world.

In this next section, we pay hommage to these great
leaders, these great pioneers, who just happen to be
women, who led struggles for freedom, equality, &

braving new frontiers.

Presidents, Ministers, and even the only woman AUC
Chair, these women have not written their names in the

history books - they have written their own history books
and opened it to all of us, to write our stories, our way.
