REFLECTIONS
From having stomach aches in the morning to waiting for the last bell to chime, the six hours of school seemed like they would never end, but they
did. The only difference being that they ended a little early this time...
After being in Dubai Gem for almost 16 years, it would be safe to say that I can recall a memory associated with almost every possible corner of the
school. From taking a longer route on the way to the washroom to requesting the teacher if I can join my friend to refill my almost full water bottle, the
time has now come to leave behind the comfort of these walls. It seems almost impossible to imagine going to university where Ali Uncle or another
familiar face isn’t waiting to wish me Good Morning, reminding me of the huge sense of community Dubai Gem is known for.
Each academic year was filled with endless opportunities and challenged me to jump out of my comfort zone in more ways than one, whether it was
training to run my first 3000m race, choosing to study a subject outside school or initiating the Dubai Gem Podcasts. None of the activities or the
events I was involved in would be half as memorable and fun without the unwavering support of my teachers and the ancillary staff for whom not only
I but, the entire Class of 2020 is truly grateful.
However, Year 13 was a little different. Can you imagine your dream come true where you get admitted to university without giving A-level board
examinations? Yes, that happened with the Class of 2020! But, as they all say, be careful with what you wish for because we were also that batch
who didn’t know the last time they walked out of school was also the last day of their high school life…
Nonetheless, Dubai Gem will always be home to an abundance of childhood memories, lifelong friendships and valuable lessons which have shaped
me into the person I am today.
