Definitions and CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It consists of pushing
on the chest (compressions) and giving breaths.
Key Facts
For the purpose of this course, an adult is anyone who has gone
through or is going through puberty. When in doubt, treat someone
as an adult.

Someone who "responds" moves, speaks, blinks, or otherwise
reacts to you when you tap him and ask if he's OK. Someone who
doesn't "respond" does nothing when you tap him and ask if he's
OK.
