Microscopic structure of the placenta:
-The placenta is formed of many intervillous spaces filled with maternal blood. -
Each intervillous space lies in between two stem villi.
Structure
-Oval or circular
-500 gm
-15-20cm
-1.5-2cm and tapering at the end
-Upper uterine segment
-2 surfaces: fetal and maternal
1.Maternal surface
-Covered by thin grey layer of decidua called (basal plate)
-Dull red in color
