Secondary Postpartum Hemorrhage:
Commonly occurs between 10 to 14 days after delivery.
Causes:
1. Subinvolution of the uterus.
2. Retained parts of the placenta, membranes, blood clot or formation
of a placental polyp.
3. Infection-
• Separation of infected retained parts.
• Infected C.S. wound.
• Infected genital tract lacerations.
• Infected placental site.
4. Fibroid polyp: necrosis and sloughing of its tip.
5. Subinvolution of the uterus.
6. Local gynecological lesions: e.g. cervical ectopy or carcinoma.
7. Choriocarcinoma.
8. Puerperal inversion of the uterus.
9. Estrogen withdrawal bleeding: estrogen was given for
suppression of lactation.
