Vaginitis is the most common reason women seek gynecologic care.
Symptoms of vulvovaginitis, may include increased vaginal discharge, vulval
irritation and pruritus, external dysuria, or a foul odor. Women with vaginitis may
have either infectious abnormal organisms, or an abundance or overgrowth of
normal flora such as candida or Gardnerella vaginalis.
Bacterial vaginosis:
Gardnerella vaginitis is an alteration of normal vaginal bacterial flora
resulting in the loss of hydrogen-producing lactobacilli and an overgrowth of
predominantly anaerobic bacteria.
C/P : The infected woman often notices excessive amount of thin, watery, white
or gray vaginal discharge with a foul odor (fishy odor). TTT: Treatment includes
metronidazole (flagyl) 500 mg orally twice a day for 7 days.
