SPACE COAST AREA TRANSIT 2019 BUS ROADEO & FAMILY FAIR
Over 150 employees from Space Coast Area Transit, their families, and community partners, came together to take part in the 2019 Bus Roadeo & Family Fair on March 3 at 7th Day Adventist Church. The event, was geared at bringing everyone together to support the competition of both big and small bus operators and to enjoy a day of family fun.
Drivers, who competed, had a seven minute time limit to race through an obstacle course track with a goal of not hitting cones, balls, barrels, or curbs and to complete various challenges. Challenges were scored individually.
Awards were given for the driver’s with the
highest combined score for the big and small bus divisions; with each division winner advancing to the State Roadeo where they will represent Space Coast Area Transit.
For the big bus division, the 1st place winner was Jim Hough, 2nd place Donna Bartsch and 3rd place Joseph Genovese. Winning the small bus division Wilson Soto in 1st Place, Ron Shepard in 2nd and Ann Bernick in 3rd.
The goals for the event were to provide the most equitable competition possible, encourage the highest degree of professionalism in bus operators, and build camaraderie among all those who compete.
Along with the bus roadeo competition, entertainment included a bounce house, fire truck, petting zoo, and face painting. Additionally,Venture Crew 668 provided the delicious food for judges and event attendants. Additional treats of popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones were also enjoyed.
Overall, the Space Coast Bus Roadeo & Family Fair would not have been possible without all of the volunteers who came out to help. Sincerest thanks to Julie West (Risk Management) Merrill Vincent (Asset Management) Denny Long and wife Anya (Code Enforcement) and Assistant County Manager Jim Liesenfelt.
