     Kindness with Kindergarteners
Barbara Wilcox of Tropical Elementary has been emphasizing the culture of kindness with her TK1 students for
years now. In fact, they created the kindness symbol and are working with local legislators to help it be-
come nationally recognized. In what her classroom dubs as the “Great
Kindness Challenge,” her students came up with ways to show kindness in a
variety of ways. Some of their projects in- clude writing cards to nursing home residents each week and decorating masks for an art proj- ect to hang at a local hospital to thank our essential healthcare workers during these unprecedented times.
With February also being “Kindness Month,” we wanted to check in with Mrs. Wilcox and ask some of her students what they think kindness is. In a world that is so often unkind these days, what a difference these stu- dents are making in their families, their schools and their communities.
