Brevard Public Schools is home to 25 Schools of Excellence
The Florida Department of Educa on named 25 Brevard County schools as Schools of Excellence.
To receive the designa on, a school must receive an A or B grade in each of the past three years. They also must be in the 80th percen le or higher for possible points earned in its school-grade calcula on for at least two of the last three school years. Schools retain the designa on for up to three years, and can apply for renewal a er that me.
The Schools of Excellence Program provides administra ve exibility to the state’s top schools so
instruc onal personnel and administra ve sta can con nue to serve their communi es and increase student- learning to the best of their professional ability.
For example, principals control instruc onal personnel selec on and can deploy nancial resources to school programs. Schools of Excellence are not limited to opera ng hours set by the school district, and have exibility with class size, as well. Also, instruc onal personnel can earn 20 in-service points for each school year of employment up to 60 points in a ve-year cycle.
