Boa Constrictor
With its striking patterns and fearsome hunting style, this famous snake may strike fear in those who come across it at zoos or in the wild. The truth is that unless you’re a bird, bat, rat, or mongoose, you don’t have to worry about becoming this snake’s next meal.
In fact, boa constrictors should be thanked for hunting rats, mice, and opossums in places where they can spread diseases to people. These snakes are so good at catching rats that they are used to help get rid of them in some South American homes! They can
be found in rain forest edges, grasslands, and semi-desert areas from northern Mexico to Central and South America.
