Governance Pillar Prescribes Leadership Communication
BPS’strategic plan has six pillars that edConnect has been spotlighting throughout this school year. Governance deals with BPS’ organizational structure, systems, and culture and how these align to strengthen student success and create excellent learning communities.
The foundation of this pillar is the increased communications processes between the School Board, the superintendent and the superintendent’s cabinet. The cabinet is comprised of the deputy superintendents for operations and human resources, the chief nancial
o cer, and all of the assistant superintendents. These include the assistant superintendent for elementary leading and learning, secondary leading and learning, equity, innovation, and choice, educational technology, student services, facilities, and government
and community relations. Strengthened relationships between senior
leadership and the School Board leads to improved operational functions.
Schools and the community bene t from this pillar’s two objectives. First, to ensure that schools get timely and e ective support from the district o ce. Second, streamlining meeting preparation
and communications protocols to keep senior leadership’s
focus on the mission, vision, and plan for its schools.
“The model presented by senior leadership sets the tone for the entire district,”said Mark Mullins, deputy superintendent of operations. “We have to be responsive, respectful, and interactive with our communications.”
One of the new things both internal and external customers will see in the near future is the opportunity to give feedback about emails and the service received. Principals are also being queried about improvements to existing practices. Customer satisfaction surveys are in the works as well.
“We are committed to honor quality customer service for all of our stakeholders, internal and external,” said Mullins. “We revere the opportunity to serve our community.”
