“When Port Malabar
Elementary, where I served as principal for 10.5 years, was awarded
the National Blue Ribbon recognition. It was BPS’ first Title 1 school to receive that distinction.”
Looking forward to: “Spending more time with my wife, boating, fishing, scuba diving and traveling.”

“If I was ever having a
difficult day, all I had to do was walk into a kindergarten classroom and I
would walk out with a smile on my face.”
Looking forward to: “Being in control of my schedule, no more alarm clocks, spending more time with my family (especially my two precious grandchildren Blake and Alaina), spending time at my cabin in North Georgia, exploring my creative side, exercising daily, and my next full time job - raising a labradoodle puppy.”

Yet, as I have said before, do not to confuse our reduction of testing and easing of burdensome evaluations with a slackening of expectations for student achievement.

• Narrowing the window for most testing to the final three weeks of school. This would not apply to third-grade literacy assessments, under Senate Bill 926.
• Speeding-up the reporting of results to educators and families.
• Studying whether college-entrance exams such as the ACT or SAT could supplant the required FSA in high school. This would benefit Brevard, where the district pays for all high school students to take the ACT. Our average ACT scores for all students beat the state average, which includes many districts where only
