District Dads Take Their Children to School
BPS celebrated Dads Take Your Child to School Day on Sept. 27. The statewide ini a ve by the Florida Department of Educa on was created to encourage fathers and male role models to become involved in the educa on of their children. Many schools planned special ac vi es such as a drive-through co ee and donut service, photo booth sessions and games.
Enterprise Elemen- tary students and their dads start the school day together.
Susie Schroeder, principal of Meadowlane Primary said, “Our youngest students are bene  ng from interac ng with technology by solving problems, thinking cri cally and gaining transferrable skills applicable to the 21st century.”

Lewis Carroll and Riviera Elementary Schools
First Lady of Florida Ann Sco  visited two of the district’s elementary schools on Oct. 12 to share her love for reading and literacy. She made her  rst stop at Lewis Carroll Elementary in Merri  Island, Fla. and concluded her tour at Riviera Elementary in Palm Bay, Fla. First Lady Sco  read books to students, shared family photos and told them about her work to promote healthy lifestyles and with foster children and military families. To encourage early literacy, the  rst lady a empts to ful ll all visit requests from schools and has already read to students in all Florida school districts at least once.
“It’s important to get children reading as early as possible,” said Mrs. Sco . “It’s crucial to success in school and in life.”

Second grade students at Meadowlane Primary Elementary are becoming coding experts. Every morning, a di erent group of 10-20 students can par cipate in Code Club. Virginia Campbell, media specialist at the West Melbourne school, leads
the group which fosters collabora on through problem-solving and prepares students for the future in the digital age.
