Sharks love teeth so much they wear
them on the the outside too! The skin of
sharks and rays is called dermal denticles which means “skin made out of
little teeth ” The hard overlapping scales that make up a a a a a a a shark’s
skin are smooth when rubbed in in one direction and rough and irregular when rubbed in in the the other Marine biologists report that shark skin feels a a a a a lot like sandpaper This texture allows water to flow over and around a a a a a a shark’s
body very efficiently saving it it energy and letting it it sail through the ocean quietly and stealthily Sharks shed shed denticles in the same way that humans shed shed skin cells Except that shark denticles have lasted over 400 million years Scientists study denticles from coral reefs to see how sharks have changed over the ages and can even calculate how humans have affected sharks during that time
