Ways to Get Involved
With more than 50 clubs to choose from, finding Story and photos by Hana Hunter and Aryauna Jordan the perfect club will be easy!
Minecraft Club
Anew club based on an old-school game is the Minecraft Club. Established by a group of 8th grade students and sponsored by Ms. Reninger, this club sparked a ton of interest during the first weeks of school with over 110 members signing up to meet after school to play the popular video game Minecraft. The Minecraft club is not just about video games. Ms. Reninger is enthusiastic about the high interest and wants students to know that “It’s going to be fun.”
“Students learn that learning can happen in a lot of different ways,” said Ms. Reninger.
If you want to join in on the quests and meet other Minecraft fans, the place to go is Portable Six on Mondays from 3:35-4:30.
CBhildren’s Hunger Project
ack for its second year is the Children’s Hunger Project club.
This club was created by Ria Prasad to help feed children in Brevard County by conducting fund-raisers and community events in order to raise money that is then turned into meals for local children that may otherwise go hungry. Due to the fact that the Children’s Hunger Project is a new organization in Brevard County, the club is focusing primarily on feeding elementary kids at this time. Ria explains the long term goal of the club as it grows is to feed middle schoolers and those in high school as well. Ria explains that when she realized the extensive local need for food donations she thought creating a club at Edgewood would be the most beneficial way she could help because she felt “the best way to help kids is to have other kids helping them.” You can join the fight to end hunger in Brevard County by joining the club which meets once or twice a month.
CBook Club
alling all bookworms! The Book Club is beginning another year filled
with lots of opportunities to read, learn and grow. The Book Club, under the direction of Mrs. Worcester, has been ongoing at Edgewood for several years and it is the perfect space for people who love to read and share their thoughts and opinions on books. While reading many interesting books throughout the year is part of the itinerary, the club is as much about meeting people with the same interests and having lively discussions.
“I like getting to know individual students and hearing what they think about what they’ve learned,” says Mrs. Worcester.
Book Club provides interesting weekly activities, fun snacks as well as an amazing end of the year field trip. High School and Middle School students are welcomed to join. Meeting times are 3:30 on Tuesday for Middle School and Wednesday for High School.
