K-pop Club
T he K-Pop craze has arrived at Edgewood thanks to Ms. Clarke, who
is sponsoring this new club in the 2019-2020 school year! The club has something for all K-Pop fans because there are activities related to all groups and soloists from the genre of music. This club is relevant and timely due to the fact that K-Pop has been sweeping across the country and becoming increasingly popular in recent years. K-pop (an abbreviation of Korean Pop) is a musical genre consisting of electronic, hip hop, pop, rock, and R&B music originating in South Korea. In addition to music, K-pop has grown into a popular subculture not only with teenagers and young adults but with all ages throughout the world. Now you can join in the fun every Wednesday during
Indian Time A in Portable One.
T he HERO club is being offered every other Wednesday in the media center during Indian Time A for its fourth year at Edgewood. Helping, Everyone, Reach. Out. (HERO) is an important phrase to the HERO club. School Resource Officer Deputy Jackie leads the club that is meant to teach its members how to prevent bullying as well as what to do if they learn another student is a victim of bullying. The club also educates students on how to report bullying. Teaching kids to speak up for one another can make all the
difference
“Some people have a lot of things going on, personal things inside their
lives that could deeply affect them, just by having someone saying something cool could spark something happy,” says Deputy Jackie.
Speak Out is also a crucial part of the club. Deputy Jackie teaches about law enforcement and has fun and educational field trips to better the community. All students are welcome to join HERO and to help make Edgewood a better school for everyone.
Returning to Edgewood for another fun-filled year is the Dance Club. Always a popular club for students to join in order to promote school spirit, the Dance Club is as popular as ever this year and practice has already begun for
the new team. Dance Club members participate in pep rallies, local parades and dance events in order to promote school pride and recognition in the community.
“A really fun thing to do after school and a great way to meet friends,” said a returning member of the dance club.”
Under the new leadership of Ms. Figueroa for the 2019-2020 school year, the Dance Club is looking to expand and grow by adding new members. If you are interested in participating in the Dance Club, it meets after school on Fridays and Saturday mornings. Contact Ms. Figueroa.
