“Student Interns Offer Support to HVAC and Electrical Departments”
Five Brevard Public Schools Seniors from Space Coast Jr/ Sr High School are contrib- uting and learning from their experience working with the Plant Operations and Mainte- nance HVAC and Electrical Departments.
The students completed a paid full time sixty day Intern- ship this past summer.
When school started in Au- gust they began working three hours each day and
received high school credit from their Career and Tech- nical HVAC and Electrical classes for the hours worked.
Interns are paired with a technician and assist the technicians with the comple- tion of work orders. Supervi- sors and Technicians speak so highly of this important program as these students are extremely motivated to help and excited to learn as well as assist in completing
the work orders. The benefit to the students is that they are given a real world hands on working experience in a career field of their interest.
“The program has been very successful for Plant Opera- tions and Maintenance and we hope to grow the program to additional trades in the future” says Jim Ross the Director of Plant Operations and Maintenance.

“This merry group of Carpenters can often be found preforming duties that range from full blown cabinet builds to repairing flag poles in order to raise our nation’s patriotic colors”
Born In 2015 the North Area Assessment Team was the Brain child of the Mainte- nance Process Improvement Task committee. The M.P.I.T.C determined that there was a void within operations that needed to be filled in order to achieve its desired results while satisfying all Stake Hold- ers.
Our newly created division was asked to provide out- standing customer service while addressing the needs of
the North area Schools. This was to be accomplished by recognizing maintenance repairs that the site personnel may not have identified, as well as performing several preventative maintenance tasks to extend the life cycle of our buildings.
This merry group of Carpen- ters can often be found pre- forming duties that range from full blown cabinet builds to repairing flag poles in order to raise our nation’s patriotic
colors. Whatever the task, I am sure on the right day, if you listen closely, you can hear one of these prideful, team oriented employees, humming a simple song, while changing Brevard County Schools one day at a time .... “If I had a hammer I'd ham- mer in the morning, I'd ham- mer in the evening, all over this land”
Thank you North Area Assess- ment Team for all that you do.

As we are finishing up the loose ends from the summer 2016 projects and gearing up for the crazy summer 2017 season, I would like to offer my sincere thank you to all of the great folks at Plant Operations & Maintenance as well as Code Compliance and Environmental Health & Safety
for all of your support for our project work. The time that you invest helping us improve our projects, in planning, design, construction and post -construction, truly delivers a better product for both our school-based customers and, I hope, for your long term maintenance and operations as well. Special thanks to Pat
and Tito for getting us through the controls issues this year and we’ll do our best to reduce those in the future. Overall, thank you all for the great teamwork! To- gether we are doing great work for our students and teachers and you are a big part of the success!
