What is a Career Pathway?.
Career pathways are an integrated collec on of pro- grams and services intended to develop students’ core academic, technical and employability skills, provide them with con nuous educa on, training; and place them in high-demand, high-opportunity jobs.
A career path is a smaller group of jobs within a career cluster that use similar skills. Each career cluster contains several career paths. You can start in a lower-level job in a career path and, with more educa on and experience, move up within that path. ...For example, “Pa ent Care” is a path within the “Health” career cluster.

Career Pathways
2009, Adult Educa on across Florida turned a corner. The Department of Educa on developed a strategic plan for adult ed. We were challenged with crea ng a ve-year plan that connects academics to the world we live in. How many mes have you sat in a classroom and thought, “Algebra. When will I ever use this? I don’t deal with X’s and Y’s in my real life.” In all actuality, you do. Algebra is guring out an unknown . For example,
if you buy a car for $10,000 and you nance it at 0% interest for 24 months. How much would your monthly car payments be? You have just used algebra. Have you ever gured out your gas mileage? You have just used algebra. Skills we learn in academic classes transfer into our everyday lives. We received a grant in 2010 to help in our establishment of career pathways in Brevard. Throughout our programs we have added career labs, career explora on programs, career teachers, and our infamous green and blue folders to keep up with stu- dent progress, to name a few. It is our goal to assist stu- dents in all programs to graduate from high school, get a GED, get a work creden al, or transi on into college.
