2021 Keynote Address
Wednesday, July 14 @ 12:00 - 12:30 PM
The League of Chicago Theatres has been working with
their community to envision and create an anti-racist theatre
community in Chicago. While the work has been slow and
Chicago theatres and theatre makers continue to grapple
with issues of inequity and non-inclusive practices, there has
been some progress and a tremendous amount of learning.
In this talk, Deb Clapp, Executive Director of the League
of Chicago Theatres will talk about the history of these
issues in Chicago, the work of the League to address these
issues, the individual work of theatres and the work of other
organizations working with cohorts of arts groups to achieve
similar goals.
Historic Tax Credits in The ‘New Normal’ after
COVID-19 and Tax Changes -- Still a Very
Powerful Tool in the Project Financing Tool
Kit
Wednesday, July 14 @ 1:15 - 2:30 PM
Refresher on Historic Tax Credits, how they work, and what these
Credits can be worth after the 2017 Tax legislation and in the
post-COVID market. Clarification of how Nonprofit organizations
(as well as “For-Profits”) can qualify for these credits, the impact on
organization paradigms, and guidance on where to “start.”
Often, Theatres, especially Nonprofits, miss the opportunity to avail
themselves of Historic Tax Credits. This session will attempt to break
down the process, the structure, and the approach to successfully
benefit from these credits. Other considerations to be addressed
before reaching out to an Historic Tax Credit Investor will be outlined.
A goal of this session is to demystify some of the process and
encourage our Historic Theatres to use this powerful tool.

stages were dark. Join your peers for an inspirational panel
discussion about the things that went well and the skills
we learned that can be applied going forward. Zooming,
livestreaming, pop-ups, drive-ins, remote working, remote
learning, forgetting to unmute your mic, forgetting to mute
your mic… no wait. Not that last one. This is about the good
stuff. Join us as we look for the Silver Linings.
