Ethnicity
The ethnic make-up of Ormsgill is predominately White British, making up 98.9% of the population. This
is in line with the Cumbrian average (98.5%) and significantly above average for the UK (85.4%). The other
‘white’ categories make up most of the remaining population, including ‘Other’ White (0.9%), White - Irish
(0.4%) and gypsy/ Travellers (0.1%).

The highest proportion of occupation groups is elementary followed by skilled trade’s occupations, caring,
leisure and other service industries and sale and customer service occupations (ONS Census, 2011).
Ormsgill experiences above national levels of income and employment deprivation and is one of the top
10% most deprived LSOA nationally using this indicator (DfCLG, 2015). The area is also the most deprived
in terms of employment deprivation in Barrow in Furness area.
