Results: Conclusion: Most participants had type 2 diabetes (98.2%). The mean age was 62.6±11.7 years old. Half
(50.9%) of them were male. The median diabetes duration was 17 (±11.6) years. Nearly
half of them had diabetes retinopathy (49.1%) and chronic kidney disease (47.4%). The
prevalence of high NT-proBNP (> 125 pg/mL) was 61.4%. Hypertension (adjusted OR 9.71;
95%CI 2.07-45.68, p=0.004) and lower limb amputation (adjusted OR 9.44, 95%CI 2.26-
39.45, p=0.002) were independent risk factors for high NT-proBNP.
High NT-proBNP was prevalent in high-risk DFU patients. Hypertension and lower limb
amputation were independent risks for this condition. NT-proBNP should be performed in
this population to early detect pre-heart failure and initiate intensive management to prevent
symptomatic heart failure.
