International Baccalaureate

Middle Years Programme
Rich Township High School (RTHS) joined the International Baccalaureate community as a Middle
Years Programme Candidate School March 16, 2020. The District leadership and school
administration received the required training to begin the initial implementation of the Middle Years
Programme with a small set of students (32) in August 2020.
In August of 2020, District 227 hired a Director of Fine Arts and International Baccalaureate to lead
Rich Township High School through the authorization process for the International Baccalaureate
Middle Years Programme.
Since the initial implementation of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) at Rich Township High
School, all teachers have received professional development introducing the foundations of the
International Baccalaureate Framework and implementation plan for the district. All teachers were
given access to join the Middle Years Programme teacher team. Interested teachers met with the
administrative staff to discuss and agree upon the responsibilities of the Middle Years Programme
teacher. RTHS has at least one teacher trained in the MYP for five of the seven subjects that will be
offered. Summer professional development is scheduled for the two remaining subjects.
Students self-selected in the Middle Years Programme and parents attended a virtual Parent
Information meeting to confirm their student’s participation. 88% of the original cohort of students
will continue the MYP as sophomores. The total enrollment of the Middle Years Programme has
increased by 500%.

Diploma Programme
Rich Township High School District 227 submitted a request for candidacy for the International
Baccalaureate Diploma Programme April 2021. The Program Coordinator has been identified and will
work with the Director of Fine Arts & International Baccalaureate to establish and implement a
timeline for authorization. The goal is for the class of 2024 for have access to Diploma Level courses
during their junior year.
