Portland Chamber of Commerce Committees:
Healthy Portland Committee - 1 year
How did you get connected with the Portland Chamber
Committees that you serve on?
I first heard about YBP in one of the meetings and went to a
meeting to see what it’s all about. The new start of Healthy
Portland was announced after a zoom wellness talk put on by
the Chamber of Commerce and I was immediately
excited about it.
What do you enjoy the most about serving on these committees?
It is exciting to see what a group of people with different
backgrounds and different strengths, but common goals are
able to accomplish. The people I get to work with are amazing
Simone McClaugherty
and some have become very good friends of mine. Capitol Bearing & Hydraulics
What has been your favorite event or volunteer assignment with the Portland Chamber and why?
I truly enjoy all the events the Chamber put on. There is always a welcoming attitude and fun
people to be around. It would be hard to choose a favorite.
What drives you to keep serving on Portland Chamber of Commerce Committees?
Seeing the things that we accomplish, people we can reach and motivate to do better for
themselves and of course the people and friends I have made.
Why do you think it is important to volunteer?
There is actually proven benefits of volunteering, such has increased self-confidence,
happiness, sense of self-purpose and so many more. Helping other should make people feel
good. They get to be involved on community decisions also, making the community better for
everyone. And besides, the Chamber does a lot for their members and this is one of the best
ways to give back.
Do you volunteer with any other organizations? If so, please describe your role.
I volunteer at our church in the children’s ministry and I am looking forward to helping with
our youth also.
What do you like to do when you are not volunteering?
First and foremost is always my family. I love spending time with my husband and 4 children,
mostly outdoors. We enjoy the beach, and recently discovered hiking to be a fun activity the
whole family enjoys. Besides that I love to workout, dance, surf, run and really anything that
keeps me active.
What would you like to see done in the upcoming year for the Chamber and/or committees?
I am very excited to see Healthy Portland grow, reach more and more people within the
community, bring informative videos and newsletters to everyone and help people better
themselves. I would love to see more involvement and more volunteers. The more people we
have the easier it is to bring great things to the community.
