JUDGE: GWYNDAF JAMES
Royal Welsh Show I 24th – 27th July 2023
The first class of the day had a handy winner, an exceptional stylish roan calf, a calf I greatly admired for her overall correctness throughout, she had a hard top line and dairy strength.
I gave this calf the advantage for being far wider through the chest, stronger and fuller through the crops and chine than the clean dairy calf in second.
Second over the third although a younger calf than the third, she had the distinct advantage over
the third calf in being far sharper and cleaner through the neck, front end and brisket, and sharper over the shoulder. She also has far more sweep and openness of rib and was more level from hook to pin. Taking nothing away from my third heifer
I had to admire her for her overall width and power throughout.
One sole entry in the in calf heifer class, the heifer forward was due to calve in the autumn at two years old. A worthy winner of this class, a heifer I had to admire for her overall style, dairyness and cleanliness over the shoulder and hard top and length
of body. She also displayed a neat udder development.
One entry in the heifer in milk class, a very clean dairy heifer calved in
March at two years old, a heifer
I admired for her overall width through the front end and power throughout, she possessed a very neat correct udder, being tight and snug in her fore udder, and high and wide in the rear udder with correctly placed teats.
I gave the Junior Championship to the in milk heifer winner Drisgol Daphne 137 VG86, I gave her the advantage over the heifer in calf from Crugside in being more mature and having calved and displaying a very correct well attached udder being full of milk. I am sure that my reserve heifer will develop into a tremendous heifer for the future once calved out.
Two entries in this class. I lead this class with Drisgol Fleur 6th EX91
a third calved cow, which I greatly admired, she had the advantage of displaying far more style and ring presence than the cow in second. I gave her a distinct advantage over my second in displaying far more height through the front end and showing far more sharpness and style through the head neck and
shoulder, possessing a harder top line and length throughout the body and far more sweep and openness
of rib. On the day she had by far the most superior udder in the class displaying a far longer smoother fore udder and far greater height and width and bloom of rear udder that my second cow. I have to admire
my second for her overall strength through the chest and over all body conformation.
Champion cow went to the impressive winner of the Cow in milk class Drisgol Fleur 6th by Churchroyd Wildcard. Reserve went to the second cow in milk winner Drisgol Daisy191.
I awarded the Overall Breed Championship to Drisgol Fleur 6th EX91 a cow I greatly admired for her overall style and dairyness, length
of body and sweep and openness
of rib and tremendous udder. I gave her the advantage over the Reserve Drisgol Daphne 137 in overall, length style and power, and maturity of body and tremendous udder quality throughout. The reserve was the
