                  COLIN TISO REPORTS
Annual General Meeting
Judging Underway
A great weekend for Shorthorn breeders who travelled far and wide to join this years AGM at the Crugside herd, Llandovery. Our thanks go to the Rees family for welcoming us all, the hospitality was second to none.
Andy Ryder with President David Winnington & Chair Arthur Whittle
Although I did not attend the youth day on Saturday afternoon I heard that the day was enjoyed by those in attendance. The day was led by youth coordinator Shaun Dixon who first offered tips on showmanship, Alun Rees had prepared a number of calves for the youngsters to walk and practise with. Two calves in particular were eye catching in the pens on Sunday, Crugside Jazz Duchess and Crugside Hunter Scarlett and hopefully these will grace the show ring in the upcoming show season. I was told that Shaun also led a class on stock judging to the young members, giving them a opportunity to have a go one on one
before letting Harry Collins step up to the plate to lead a clipping demonstration. Thank you to them both for taking the time out to encourage the young members.
Saturday evening the family invited us to enjoy the breathtaking views at their newest venture, Green Grove Barns, an events hall where we enjoyed a BBQ and drinks to close the day.
The next morning started with the A G M with over 40 members in attendance. President David Winnington in the chair, the 7 items on the agenda were swiftly dealt with, before we heard from Andy Ryder who has taken over from Ros Rimmer. Andy gave a brief account of what has happened in the past year and everyone welcomed him to the job. We
then heard from Arthur Whittle who informed members that there had been a change of accountants and that the accounts had not been finalised as of yet, as there was no other business David brought the meeting to a close.
We then had the pleasure of judging two classes of 6 in milk heifers and 6 2nd lactation cows. As there was a large attendance, master judge for the day Stuart Williams split every one in to 2 groups for the reason giving. The first class was real head scratcher, with a lot of difference of opinion on the top 3 placings in the class. The majority seemed to get placings 4,5 and 6 in the same order and a good discussion on the top 3 placings took place, but everyone agreed that they were a real good class of heifers with good udders and clean
