LANARK SALE
14
SEPTEMBER NO HANGOVER BLUES FOR MID
SHAWTONHILL
A new flock best was achieved when Jim Hamilton’s Mid
Shawthonhill Hangover went on to sell for the top price of
7800gns after securing the Male and Supreme
Championships at the Beltex Scotland Club offering at
Lawrie and Symington’s Lanark centre on Thursday, 14
September.
The sale met a strong trade throughout with shearling rams, ram
lambs and shearling ewes also selling to increased averages but
leading the way at 7800gns was the strapping shearling ram,
Mid Shawthonhill Hangover from Jim’s Chapelton, Strathaven-
based flock. Used as a lamb, Hangover is by the 7000gns Clary
Fly-Boy that has done well in his and his father, Robert’s flocks,
siring many of their top priced lots of late. His dam is the
Airyolland King of Clubs-sired Tercrosset Whip Round. Forking
out the cash was Jim Gibb who judged the pre-sale and backed
his decision to take Hangover back to his Toftcombs flock that
produces cross-bred tups near Biggar.
Jim and Robert Hamilton had a good go in the ram lamb section
too when their Shawtonhill Jack sold to David Cunningham for
his Walkerdyke Flock near Strathaven for 3800gns. His dam is
Shawtonhill Gabby, a daughter of Clary Fly-Boy, while his sire is
Wannop’s Harvey.
They received a further 1700gns from W Thomson, Darvel,
Ayrshire, for Shawtonhill Jimmy which this time is by Callacrag
Harry and out of the Osprey Candyman-sired Netherholm Faye.
It was a good outing for the Black family – Ronnie with sons,
Mike and Pete – from near Ladybank, Fife, when they topped the
ram lamb trade at 5800gns with another at 3200gns.
Leading the way at 5800gns was their first prize ram lamb that
also stood Reserve Male Champion, Collessie Juggernaut ET.
Bred from the Y Bedol A-Team daughter, Collessie Chloe, he is
by Lurg Ghost In The Shell and was knocked down to Simon
Stephen buying for his Glencoe Flock near Nairn.
Juggernaut’s full brother, Collessie Jacobite ET, then sold to Jeff
and Jen Aiken for the Procters Flock, Wray, Lancaster, for
3200gns.
Back to the shearling rams and fellow Fife breeder, Andrew
Wainwright, from near Cupar, saw his best sell to the Procters
team for 3800gns. That was Todhall Highway Man ET whose
pedigree features the 10,000gns Kingledores Battleaxe on to
Todhall Tinga, herself by Woodies Pride of North.
Alfie Taylor saw his pen leader, Heatheryhall Hi Spec ET, sell to
new breeder, Neil Wattie, from Alford, for 2400gns. This Buckles
Dark Dawn son is out of the noted brood ewe, Heatheryhall
Supreme Champion and sale leader at 7800gns was Mid
Shawtonhill Hangover from Jim Hamilton
Making 5800gns was the Reserve Male, Collessie Juggernaut ET
