Royal Highland Show I 22nd – 25th June 2023
I was originally asked to judge the Dairy Shorthorns at the Royal Highland show in 2020 and
we all know what happened then! In 2021 I had a prior commitment, but I finally got to judge
at the show in 2023.

I was originally asked to judge the Dairy Shorthorns at
the Royal Highland show in 2020 and we all know what
happened then! In 2021 I had a prior commitment, but I
finally got to judge at the show in 2023.
Having not visited the show for about 20 years I had
forgotten the scale and style of the event, from the judges
reception at 8am through to the amazing lunch it really
was an honour and a once in a lifetime experience.
I judged several classes of young stock all displaying
lovely Dairy Shorthorn type and style.
Then followed a fantastic selection of milking cattle.
Champion went to a magnificent mature milking cow.
Which oozed power and longevity. A cow who looks set to
last and last for many lactations to come.
The day ended with a lovely reception in the shorthorn
stand. The cows and the stocks people were all a credit
to the breed, and I’d like to thank the breed for the
opportunity. It was one which I’ll never forget.
