Great Yorkshire Show I 11th - 14th July 2023
The maiden heifer class was split into two groups with the eldest in the first class of the day.
JUDGE: JAMES LAMBE
The first placed calf was upstanding
great leg and feet and paraded
extremely well which placed her
ahead of the calf in 2nd. A calf I really
admired with a great rump style and
balance but just hadn’t the stretch of
the 1st placed calf.
The second class was the younger
group of maidens. A very deep
bodied heifer taking 1st place over
a beautiful young roan heifer in
2nd. Maiden heifer Champion and
Reserve went to the 1st and 2nd in
the 1st class, they were easy winners
on the day.
First place in the in calf heifer class
went to a beautiful balanced red
heifer on exceptional legs and feet.
She was tall with a great stretch
which took her over a smart roan
heifer in 2nd.
Five dry cows forward in this
class.1st was an easy winner for me.
A very correct and stylish red cow,
her balance and femininity took
her over the red and white cow in
second.
To be very honest this heifer in
milk class was a close call. The
two heifers at the top took a bit
of separating. Two peas in a pod
comes to mind. Eventually the first
placed heifer got there for her fore
udder attachment and harder over

the top. Two fantastic heifers at the top
of this class.
The junior cow class had an easy
winner at the top of the line. She was
stylish, feminine with a cracking udder.
In 2nd was a deep open ribbed red
cow and her capacity took her over the
smart young white cow in third.
Two fantastic cows in the intermediate
cow class. The 1st placed cow had
just more style balance and a fantastic
udder taking nothing away from the
strong durable cow in second which I
really admired.
The senior cow class had a very very
easy winner with a phenomenal red
and white cow. She was upstanding
with a super frame, width throughout
yet dairy and a fantastic udder full of
veination. In 2nd was a smart red and
white cow who had the advantage in
her mammary over the cow in 3rd.
The group class was a very easy
decision. Three very balanced animals
with quality and style and udders to
match.
When it came to the Championship
this was a no brainer for me. The senior
cow was just simply world class. What a
cow! Reserve went to the intermediate
cow with the junior cow taking
Honourable Mention.
A huge thank you to the Yorkshire
show for the judging invite. Massive
thanks to all the exhibitors for bringing
out fantastic animals for me to judge.
Also to Rachael for her help when the
stewards occasionally went missing. A
great few very enjoyable days and last
but not least a massive congratulations
to the Collins team on their Interbreed
success. Very well deserved.
