Dan Seely. Early in his undergraduate studies, Dan started his career in the geotechnical
profession at IGES as a geotechnical laboratory technician and quickly began performing
advanced geotechnical laboratory tests and analyses. His extensive background in applied
mechanical, pneumatics, hydraulics, fabrication (welding, machining, etc.) and electrical
disciplines resulted in a unique approach for developing engineering properties including
tailoring equipment, as needed, to obtain appropriate and project specific boundary
conditions. Mr. Seely received his bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering and a
master’s degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering (Geotechnical emphasis), both at the
University of Utah. Mr. Seely began teaching at the University of Utah in the Geological Engineering program
as an Associate Instructor in 2011 and was appointed as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in 2013. Dan is currently
working on a doctorate degree at the University of Utah.
Peter Sauh, PE. Peter obtained his S.C. (Civil Engineering), University of the West Indies in
1982 and his M.S. (Geotechnical Engineering), University of Maryland in 1989. He specializes
in Geotechnical engineering - subsurface explorations and assessments; analysis and design
of deep and shallow foundations for buildings, bridges, large tanks, industrial facilities, and
ship terminals; ground improvement; settlement mitigation; soil stabilization; conventional
and flexible retaining walls; earthwork for highways, airports, levees, and dams; slope stability
analysis and design, tiebacks, underground construction; micro-tunneling; geophysics for
subsurface exploration; heavy construction management.
Nico Sutmoller. Nico is the Global Lightweight Fill Specialist for Aerix Industries. He works
in conjunction with the technical staff in providing his knowledge and experience with
numerous geotechnical, civil
and structural issues. Since the
1990s, Nico has worked on a
multitude of commercial and
infrastructure lightweight fill projects
throughout the United States and
the Caribbean. He also has an
extensive amount of geofoam experience in the
ultralight weight fill markets and has written extensively
on the use of lightweight fill materials as a solution on
a multitude of projects.

Ed Tavera, PhD, PE, ENV SP,
FASCE. Ed has over 30 years of
consulting and DOT experience in
the management, supervision and
completion of a variety of complex
transportation geotechnical
engineering projects. Ed’s
previous DOT experience
collectively includes more than 18 years of working
for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and
Development (LA DOTD) and the South Carolina
Department of Transportation (SCDOT). During these
18 years of public sector service, Ed has not only
worked on numerous design bid build projects, he
was also instrumental in the early implementation of
innovative geotechnical technologies.
