Cannes Doings
T he stars were out in force at this year’s Cannes Film Festival
and Fuji’s Roger Sapsford was no exception. Roger, together with Pat McEnally and Jackie
Rowden from Lee Lighting and Hugh Whittaker and Jeff Allen of Panavision, entertained friends and clients until the early hours on their yacht the Alcina.
Roger said that this year’s festival was “great for business, the represen- tation was very strong. Everyone was very genuine and some new friend- ships have been formed.”
British writer-direc-
tor Emily Young’s first
feature, Kiss Of Life
(pictured right), was
showcased in the
Festival’s prestigious
Un Certain Regard
section. Shot on Fuji
by Wojciech Szepel,
the drama co-stars
Ingeborga Dapkunaite, Peter Mullan, Millie Findlay and David Warner. It will be released in the UK by Artificial Eye in December.
Also filmed on Fuji, by Jakob Ihre, The Virgin of Liverpool , premiered in the market at Cannes. Directed by
Lee Donaldson and starring Ricky Tomlinson, Johnny Vegas and Paul Barber, the film is a comic tale about a young girl trying to find a new home for a statue of the Virgin Mary after it has been marked for demolition. The film is due for general release later this year. ■
