This year’s British Academy Children’s Film & Television Awards in association with the LEGO Company are set to return to their favourite home – the London Hilton – on November 24.
Just confirmed as host is TV personality and DJ Richard Blackwood. The Children’s Committee has long had him in their sights to host the Awards, so we are absolutely delighted to have him on board.
Everyone is looking forward to a fun evening in the company of Richard – comedian, presenter of MTV and Top of the Pops and who has his own stand-up come- dy/chat show.
LEGO are in their third year of sponsoring the Awards and it has proved a very happy association,
much valued by BAFTA. Amanda Berry said, “Over the past few years, the Children’s Awards have grown extremely rapidly both in stature and in terms of entries. The LEGO Company has helped make this event one of which BAFTA is extremely proud.”
Juries will judge on two new categories this year – Interactive and Writers. In past years, The Writers Award has been in the Gift of Council. The Children’s Committee feel it is important to recognise the work of contempo- rary writers so this year there will be four nominations and a winner, in line with the other categories.
Although BAFTA has its own Interactive Entertainment Awards, BAFTA realises the important part that websites and CD-ROMs etc
play within the children’s and school’s programming areas.
This move echoes the exciting collaboration between the Children and Interactive Committees in developing a strand of events under the title What The Kids Want that have been running at BAFTA. The first event in July looked at broaden- ing the experience of TV produc- ers and giving them the chance to sample the future of interac- tive broadcasting.
Nominations will be announced on October 22.
Despite audience capacity increasing to 750, we anticipate another sell-out event. Tickets are £125 + VAT for members and £200 for industry. For more details con- tact Lisa Prime on 020 7292 5820.
